Located in Beolgyo-eup, Boseong-gun, South Jeolla Province, Boseong Inn (Registered Cultural Heritage 132 of Korea) is a modern inn that combines elements of Japanese architecture and “hanok” construction. It is the site of the well-known historical novel titled, “Taebaek Mountain Range” by Cho Chong-rae and was an actual inn that operated during the modern period. Visiting Boseong Inn is a throwback to the analog days of Korean history, and its location at the Taebaek Mountain Range Literary Street makes it a good base for walking tours along the historical buildings. The inn was reborn as a cultural complex in 2012 after restorations, which furnished the building with guest rooms, a café, and an exhibition space. There are seven rooms in total, all Korean-styled and named after Boseong’s mountains, and can house two to three guests. Opening the paper-lined door showcases a view of the tidy garden. The Obongsan and Jonjesan rooms come with attached “maru,” allowing guests to lounge peacefully on the raised floor. Only the Obongsan, Jeseoksan, and Jonjesan rooms come with attached bathrooms, and guests staying in other rooms must use the shared shower and restroom. Moreover, the second floor has a “tatami” mat room that can be used as a cultural space. It is also a good place to watch the scenery of the alleyways down below. Meanwhile, the first floor is occupied by an antique café, a small theater, and an exhibition space that details the modern history of the Beolgyo area, doubling as a trip down memory lane. The inn offers services in English, Japanese, and Chinese, and provides complimentary breakfast made up of toast, eggs, and beverages.
